Williams 3 by Arick Scott
This group's presentation was about the over-nutrition and malnutrition that exists within the world today. The "over-nutrition" refers to the term obesity. This epidemic seems to be exclusively directed towards the United States. Malnutrition refers to the trials that other countries face when trying to feed themselves and maintain a nutritious diet. America tends to ingest way more food than other countries. The lack of exercise and unhealthy diets are reflected by the weight of Americans on average. Other countries, especially third world countries, struggle for food and clean water everyday. They happen to be in deep poverty and it is shown by their eating habits and their slenderness. One would think that Americans would proportional our food consumption so that we are not as wasteful while others worldwide are starving. The presenters seemed confident and they appeared to be well-educated about their topic. They mentioned that other countries face awkward situations of famine due to climate change. For example, certain countries experience occasional droughts that result in crop failure and water shortages. One can only imagine how it must feel to be increasingly hungry without any means of feeding oneself. The presenters mentioned one country, Mauritania, that actually force feed their women because they see a hefty physique as an expression of wealth and beauty. The women have to eat constantly and consume large amounts of camel milk. I was somewhat shocked to hear this because I genuinely thought that all of the third-world countries were poor and famished. This presentation proved to be informative and actually interesting.

Somehow, I personally liked this presentation and decided to blog about it. The presentation itself was actually typical and was similar to the many others that were presented. One of the things that happened to catch my attention and somewhat inspired me to blog about this particular group was that the presentation didn't seem to be a group effort at all. There was only one presenter and he seemed confident and demonstrated a strong understanding of the topic. His presentation was about the Education in African-American Communities. The other factors that contributed to my blogging inspiration was the facts of the presentation itself. The presenter stated that Harvard Psychologists actually believe that the intellectual gap between white students and Black students is genetic. Hearing this, I was shocked to find out that well-educated individuals could actually believe that the educational downfall of our African-American youth is hereditary and somehow their fate. Anyone can obviously see that the African-American educational opportunities do not compete with that of the white race. Our youth are discretely deprived of their potential schools. Black children tend to attend the local zone schools that are usually as bad as the neighborhoods. Black children cannot be expected to collectively equally perform on an academic level similar to the white children because Black children don't have all of the resources or support of the community. The presenter also mentioned an institute in Harlem, called the Harlem Kids Zone. Lead by Geoffrey Canada, CEO, this institution continues to offer the children a place to learn, develop, and exceed. The center also offers mini-colleges for the pregnant women of the community so that they can be supported and educated about the rearing of their expected newborn. Obama offers $10,000,000.00 to schools that resemble this institution. This was useful information and I must applaud the individual for delivering his presentation single-handedly and effectively.
